NEW MARANTZ MODEL ONE MONO
PREAMP REPLACEMENT POWER TRANSFORMERS, USA MADE
These
are exact electrical equivalents to the original Marantz Model 1 power
transformers, that are prone to failure (usually open high voltage secondary)
due to the extremely small gauge wire used in them.
The
new transformers use all new materials, and also have metal end bells like the
originals.
***NOTE: The new transformers' end
bells are just slightly larger than the originals, due to changes
in the size of currently available end bells, but--with slight modifications to
the holes on the transformer's mounting bracket (filing these holes oval in the
correct direction), and by slightly moving the high voltage selenium rectifier
over about 1/16 inch, the transformers will then fit into the supply, with
ample clearance for the chassis bottom cover.
This
transformer will also fit early Model 1 supplies, which are laid out
slightly differently than the newer ones, again with slight mods to the holes
on the transformer bracket, and slight movement of interfering parts, done by
filing their mounting holes oval (from round). I have done this
successfully myself, and if done properly, there is no external evidence of the
chassis mods. The oval holes are still completely covered by the screw
heads.

MARANTZ MODEL 18/19 POWER TRANSFORMER, REPLACES MARANTZ P/N 52-1000

These
are remanufactured replacement transformers that will fit and work properly in
the Marantz 18 or Marantz 19 Receivers made between 1967-1973. They are
all new internally, and have been placed in original transformer cans removed
from defective transformers, so the are only sold on an EXCHANGE
basis. PAYMENT MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE OLD TRANSFORMER.
These
new transformers have been built to the improved Model 19 transformer specs,
because the Model 18 transformers had some weaknesses both in the high voltage
scope winding, and in the low voltage high current winding used for the power
amplifier sections of the receiver. These weaknesses in winding design are
partly responsible for the failures of the transformers in the Model 18.
ALL
NEW TRANSFORMERS ARE 100% TESTED ON ALL WINDINGS BEFORE THEY ARE SHIPPED TO
YOU. If you purchase one of these new rebuilt transformers, you must BE
SURE that there are NO SHORT CIRCUITS anywhere in your
18 or 19 receiver and that you are using the PROPER FUSE SIZE
BEFORE YOU TURN THE UNIT ON WITH A NEW TRANSFORMER INSTALLED AND CONNECTED.
If you do not do this, you risk damaging the new transformer. ANY
DAMAGE OF THIS KIND VOIDS THE NEW TRANSFORMER RETURN GUARANTEE.
If you are not sure how to check for shorts, you should have a QUALIFIED
TECHNICIAN check your receiver and install the new transformer. The
wire colors match the original Marantz 18 transformer wire colors.
Additionally,
one filament winding on the new transformer, for the oscilloscope tube heater,
has had its output voltage increased by approximately 10%, to make the scope
trace of old scope tubes brighter and less blurry. The weak, out of focus
trace is usually due to a weak scope tube cathode, caused by thousands of hours
of use. This extra filament voltage can usually squeeze more usable time from
the old scope tube, somewhat like the old picture tube brighteners.
If
you have a new scope tube, or replace your old one with a new (or good newer)
tube, you can install a small resistor in line with one of the wires from this
winding, and achieve the normal 6.3 Volts; either way, you win.
